Declare, If Thou Hast Understanding

Job 37:1–39:30; 2 Corinthians 4:13–5:10; Psalm 44:9-26; Proverbs 22:13

Declare, If Thou Hast Understanding
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel By words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; For I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line upon it? – Job 38:1-5

Job’s friends and Job gave words without knowledge. Words not taken to the Father to be empowered by the Holy Ghost are words that darken the counsel given. Even flattering words that appear to build up lose their purpose if they do not come from our Father in heaven.

Please help me, Holy Ghost, be mindful that every word from my mouth is of You (or the flesh or enemy). Help my words to be a light to those they are intended to reach. Help them to be ripe with understanding because they came from Your heart and mouth. In Jesus’ Name I ask. Amen!

He Which Raised Up the Lord Jesus Shall Raise Up Us Also by Jesus
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. – 2 Corinthians 4:13-15

Redound – to have a good or bad effect or result; to come back or reflect upon a person as to honor or disgrace

The Outward Man Perish, Yet the Inward Man is Renewed Day by Day
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. – 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

An House Not Made with Hands, Eternal in the Heavens
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. – 2 Corinthians 5:1-5

Whilst We are at Home in the Body, We are Absent from the Lord
Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (for we walk by faith, not by sight:) we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
– 2 Corinthians 5:6-10

Heavenly Father, Help me to live a life pleasing to You, knowing that the things of this world may be Your blessings, but there are temporary. Help me be content with such things as the few friendships I have because, honestly, I don’t want to be at home in this body yet apart from You. I want to be in Your presence each and every day for eternity. If it starts down here in some special way as I walk this next season, then let it be so…all for Your Glory, Your honor, and Your praise.

He Knoweth the Secrets of the Heart
If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
– Psalm 44:20-22

______

Awake, Arise, Redeem
Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast us not off for ever. Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression? For our soul is bowed down to the dust: Our belly cleaveth unto the earth. Arise for our help, And redeem us for thy mercies’ sake
. – Psalm 44:23-26

______

The Slothful Man
The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
– Proverbs 22:13

The lazy one [manufactures excuses and] says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets [if I go out to work]!” – Proverbs 22:13 AMP

Sloth – disinclination to action or labor; spiritual apathy and inactivity; idleness, laziness, shiftlessness

Behold, God is Great

Job 34:1–36:33; 2 Corinthians 4:1-12; Psalm 44:1-8; Proverbs 22:10-12

Behold, God is Great
Behold, God is great, and we know him not, Neither can the number of his years be searched out
. – Job 36:26

______

Renounce the Hidden Things
Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
– 2 Corinthians 4:1-2

Renounce – to give up or put aside voluntarily; to give up by formal declaration

What “HIDDEN THINGS” are we to renounce?
– DISHONESTY,
– CRAFTINESS (skillful in underhand or evil schemes; cunning, deceitful, sly)
– HANDLING THE WORD OF GOD DECEITFULLY

If Our Gospel Be Hid
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. – 2 Corinthians 4:3-4

We Preach Christ Jesus the Lord
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:5-6

Treasure in Earthen Vessels
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. –
2 Corinthians 4:7-10

Delivered Unto Death for Jesus’ Sake
For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you. – 2 Corinthians 4:11-12

______

In God We Boast
In God we boast all the day long, And praise thy name for ever. Selah.
– Psalm 44:8

Cast Out the Scorner
Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; Yea, strife and reproach shall cease.
– Proverbs 22:10

Scorn – to mock, jeer; to reject, refuse, or ignore with contempt or disdain; open and unqualified contempt

Pondering (8-29-2021)

The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?

Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

O Send Out Thy Light and Thy Truth

Job 31:1–33:33; 2 Corinthians 3:1-18; Psalm 43:1-5; Proverbs 22:8-9

O Send Out Thy Light and Thy Truth
O send out thy light and thy truth: Let them lead me; Let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: Yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God. – Psalm 43:3-4

______

A Covenant with Mine Eyes
I made a covenant with mine eyes; Why then should I think upon a maid? For what portion of God is there from above? And what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? Is not destruction to the wicked? And a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity? Doth not he see my ways, And count all my steps? – Job 31:1-4

Here, Job speaks of a covenant he made with his eyes. He references it toward looking upon and lusting after a woman, but indeed we can lust for many things of this world. Wealth, position, titles, ease. We look upon what others have, and we think if only we had that. We compare, and the thought develops that it would make us or our lives better. That is lust, and it bears the seeds of jealousy.

Unchecked jealousy brings along with it strife. And as we continue to feed and water jealousy and strife, the Bible says there is confusion and every evil work.

We need to make a covenant with our eyes—a covenant not to allow our eyes to compare and covet. We need to cut jealousy off before it takes root (confess), and if it has taken root, we need to pull it up by the root (repent) and burn the root and any seed that has dropped along the way (go and sin no more). It is evil and not dealt with as the horrible sin it is, leads to every evil work and destruction. It leads to an eternity in hell. Help us, LORD! Please help me!

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. – James 3:16

Ye Are Our Epistle Written in Our Hearts
Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. – 2 Corinthians 3:1-3

Our Sufficiency is of God
And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. – 2 Corinthians 3:4-6

Glorious
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: how shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. – 2 Corinthians 3:7-11

Turn to the Lord and the Vail Shall Be Taken Away
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: and not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: but their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. – 2 Corinthians 3:12-16

Changed From Glory to Glory
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. – 2 Corinthians 3:17-18

A Sweet Savour of Christ

Job 28:1–30:31; 2 Corinthians 2:12-17; Psalm 42:1-11; Proverbs 22:7

A Sweet Savour of Christ
Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: to the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ
. – 2 Corinthians 2:14-17

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads and makes evident everywhere the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him. For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which ascends] to God, [discernible both] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the latter one an aroma from death to death [a fatal, offensive odor], but to the other an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is adequate and sufficiently qualified for these things? For we are not like many, [acting like merchants] peddling God’s word [shortchanging and adulterating God’s message]; but from pure [uncompromised] motives, as [commissioned and sent] from God, we speak [His message] in Christ in the sight of God. – 2 Corinthians 2:14-17 AMP

Forgive and Comfort
But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all. Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him. For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

My foot hath held his steps, His way have I kept, and not declined. Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: And many such things are with him. Riches and Honour and Life

Job 20:1–22:30; 2 Corinthians 1:1-11; Psalm 40:11-17; Proverbs 22:2-4

Lay Up His Words in Thine Heart
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: Thereby good shall come unto thee. Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, And lay up his words in thine heart. If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, Thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles. Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, And the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, And thou shalt have plenty of silver. For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, And shalt lift up thy face unto God. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, And thou shalt pay thy vows. Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: And the light shall shine upon thy ways. When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, there is lifting up; And he shall save the humble person. He shall deliver the island of the innocent: And it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands. – Job 22:21-30

We Had the Sentence of Death in Ourselves That We Should Not Trust in Ourselves
For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: but we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf. – 2 Corinthians 1:8-11

I am Poor and Needy; Yet the Lord Thinketh Upon Me

Thy Will Be Done!!! Amen! Amen!

This week began with the plan to shut down our Pastoral Counseling offices at the end of September. It was a hard decision, but necessary as the health of my business partner, DST, continues to decline. The plan was set but then suddenly yesterday I had to say we cannot wait. It was just too much for him. Hearing my justifications, he quietly agreed. I believe he was waiting on me to take that stand against his wants and my wants and make a decision in his best interest and those of our clients.

See, he was trying to work until next year when I would be able to retire. That was his plan, but it was just too much for him now. It was therefore too much for our clients. So many lives were clearly in the balance and continuing would go against everything we stood for and built on.

What did we build on? Excellence in therapy and compassion for those who often hurt the worst but won’t often admit it – Pastors, Pastor’s Families, the Military, and military families. These were our clients. The centers were two businesses built upon our deepest wounds in these two specific areas. And yesterday, I heard in my heart, his own cry that he just couldn’t admit.

So…today was the first day of his retirement. I still have the offices to close and hundreds of various tasks and then we will see.

God has a plan. I started our pastoral counseling center 30 years ago, along with DST, a friend who was also my pastor, who was also a pastoral and professional counselor. He did the counseling and the training of counselors. I did everything else. He had Divinity and Counseling degrees. I had Business Management degrees. He was Clinical Partner. I was Administrative Partner. We and our many other associates were at one time the largest counseling practice in the state. And then one practice turned into two practices. We gave these special nonprofit counseling centers everything we had. Our families did too. Our time, our finances, our gifts, and our love. Our children grew up alongside us as we worked. As they could, it provided their first jobs. These businesses/ministries gave us back a life with great purpose, and that has been one of my greatest joys. How many lives can you touch in 30 years? They are countless. Truly this was a gift from God.

Now I am 60 years old and it is 30 years later. Here I sit reminiscing. I have peace even in the midst of so many feelings.

My mind goes to one of our office mottos – Principles have no value, if they don’t have a cost.

That is so true today! Oh, the costs to stand on the principles of excellence and demonstrations of love. Oh, the costs!

Then my heart takes over and rejoices louder than my mind cries, with a verse I shared earlier this week.

The Lord giveth and He taketh away. Blessed be the Name of the LORD!
Blessed be the Name of the LORD!

And when my heart starts to falter then my soul takes it’s stand and screams to the top of it’s lungs – THY WILL BE DONE!!!! In DSTs life, in our families’ lives. THY WILL BE DONE in my life as it is in heaven. THY WILL BE DONE!!! Thy will be done!!!

All we can ask and all we can ever need is right there. When I feel I have nothing else…this I have and this I know. It is everything to me tonight. Four “little” words I have prayed over and over these last five years of this journey. I’ve prayed it and others have prayed it. So many have prayed and so I have to believe I am seeing it manifest –

Thy Will be done! Amen! Amen!

Oh That My Words Were Now Written!

Job 16:1–19:29; 1 Corinthians 16:1-24; Psalm 40:1-10; Proverbs 22:1

Oh That My Words Were Now Written!
Oh that my words were now written! Oh that they were printed in a book! That they were graven with an iron pen and lead In the rock for ever! For I know that my redeemer liveth, And that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, Yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, And mine eyes shall behold, and not another; Though my reins be consumed within me. – Job 19:23-27

Addicted to the Ministry of the Saints
I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,) that ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth. I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied. Flesh and Blood Cannot Inherit the Kingdom of God

Job 12:1–15:35; 1 Corinthians 15:29-58; Psalm 39:1-13; Proverbs 21:30-31

How Are the Dead Raised Up? With What Body Do They Come?
But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: but God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
– 1 Corinthians 15:35-41

Sown in Corruption, Raised in Incorruption
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: it is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. – 1 Corinthians 15:42-45

Flesh and Blood Cannot Inherit the Kingdom of God
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. – 1 Corinthians 15:45-50

We Shall Not All Sleep, But We Shall All Be Changed
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. – 1 Corinthians 15:51-54

O Death, Where is Thy Sting?
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. – 1 Corinthians 15:55-58

In Whose Hand is the Soul of Every Living Thing?
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; And the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: And the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these That the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind. Doth not the ear try words? And the mouth taste his meat? With the ancient is wisdom; And in length of days understanding. With him is wisdom and strength, He hath counsel and understanding. Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: He shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening. Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: Also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth. With him is strength and wisdom: The deceived and the deceiver are his. He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, And maketh the judges fools. He looseth the bond of kings, And girdeth their loins with a girdle. He leadeth princes away spoiled, And overthroweth the mighty. He removeth away the speech of the trusty, And taketh away the understanding of the aged. He poureth contempt upon princes, And weakeneth the strength of the mighty. He discovereth deep things out of darkness, And bringeth out to light the shadow of death. He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: He enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again. He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, And causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. They grope in the dark without light, And he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man. – Job 12:7-25

Hold Not Thy Peace at My Tears
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; Hold not thy peace at my tears: For I am a stranger with thee, And a sojourner, as all my fathers were. O spare me, that I may recover strength, Before I go hence, and be no more. – Psalm 39:12-13
