Come, Behold the Works of the LORD

Ecclesiastes 1:1–3:22; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13; Psalm 46:1-11; Proverbs 22:15

Come, Behold the Works of the LORD
Come, behold the works of the LORD, What desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; He breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; He burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. – Psalm 46:8-10

Desolation – devastation, ruin, barrenness; sorrow, grief, woe

Receive Not the Grace of God in Vain
We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, And in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) – 2 Corinthians 6:1-2

Giving No Offence
Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: – 2 Corinthians 6:3

Approving Ourselves as Ministers of God
But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God,

  • in much patience
  • in afflictions
  • in necessities
  • in distresses
  • in stripes
  • in imprisonments
  • in tumults
  • in labours
  • in watchings
  • in fastings
  • by pureness
  • by knowledge
  • by longsuffering
  • by kindness
  • by the Holy Ghost
  • by love unfeigned
  • by the word of truth
  • by the power of God
  • by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left
  • by honour and dishonour
  • by evil report and good report
  • as deceivers, and yet true
  • as unknown, and yet well known
  • as dying and, behold, we live
  • as chastened, and not killed
  • as sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing
  • as poor, yet making many rich
  • as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

– 2 Corinthians 6:4-10

Be Ye Also Enlarged
O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels. Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged. – 2 Corinthians 6:11-13

We are speaking freely to you, Corinthians [we are keeping nothing back], and our heart is opened wide. There is no limit to our affection for you, but you are limited in your own affection [for us]. Now in the same way as a fair exchange [for our love toward you]—I am speaking as [I would] to children—open wide [your hearts] to us also. – 2 Corinthians 6:11-13 AMP

This Also is Vanity and Vexation of Spirit
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit. – Ecclesiastes 2:2

– excessive pride in one’s appearance, qualities, abilities, achievements

– to torment, trouble, distress, worry; to irritate, annoy, provoke; to disturb, to stir u

Foolishness is Bound in the Heart of a Child
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; But the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. – Proverbs 22:15

Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline [correction administered with godly wisdom and lovingkindness] will remove it far from him.
– Proverbs 22:15 AMP
